Malaysia Airlines is a major Asian carrier which has a long history that goes back to 1947. The carrier's name is actually the 5th in a series of names it has used throughout the years. First, it was known as Malayan Airways, then changed its name to Malaysian Airways, later to Malaysia-Singapore Airways, after which the company was split into Singapore Airlines and Malaysian Airlines System. The brand name of Malaysian Airlines used to day was created in 1987
