General information
Initially called Vietnam Civil Aviation, founded in 1956, but today it is a modern airline of the communist country of Vietnam, which is economically growing quite well. The airline is thriving and new orders of airplanes will triple the fleet size by 2020. In the coming years, Vietnam Airlines will become a more important regional air carrier.

Destinations
East Asia and southeast Asia are served primarily by Vietnam Airlines. In Europe only Moscow, Frankfurt and Paris, in Australia Melbourne and Sydney are served.
Fleet
53 airplanes are in the Vietnam Airlines fleet and 77 more are going to enter it soon. By 2020 it is projected that there will be about 150 aircraft operating in Vietnam Airlines livery. 12 Airbus A350, 16 Boeing 787, 33 Airbus A321, 1 Airbus A330, 4 Airbus A380 and 15 ATR-72 planes were ordered by Vietnam Airlines. These will gradually enter the fleet in the 2008-2014 period. Further orders that will bring the total number of airliners to approximately 150 will be made in the coming years.
