Greece plane tickets & flights
Popular summer vacation and cultural vacation destination, as we all know... Let us take a look at the flight options you have...
Domestic flights Intense between the big cities like Athens and Thessaloniki and the Greek Islands.
International flights Athens and Thessaloniki have the biggest international airports. Greece is an important magnet for tourists, but the Elefthérios Venizélos International Airport near Athens is also a major international hub where travelers change airplanes when flying between continents.
Airlines serving Greece
There were 2 major local airlines in addition to a number of very small local and charter carriers. Aegean Airlines and Olympic Airlines were these major carriers. The latter one was the flag carrier of the country, but has filed bankruptcy and has interrupted operations starting with September 29, 2009. There is only 1 major Greek airline currently:
Aegean Airlines The biggest private airline of the country. Not a low fare carrier, at least not officially, but they tent to reduce prices quite often and stimulate clients to purchase tickets online, thus reducing the fare. Aegean Airlines serves over 3 dozen destinations in and outside Greece.
Various other carriers Almost every large airline in Europe and the Middle East flies to Athens. Some airlines also fly to the islands and to the second largest city of Thessaloniki (Salonica). Low cost airlines like easyJet also fly to Greece. Advance booking is recommended in order to obtain the best prices.
